Would a beard trimmer do a good job if I just wanted to give myself a crew cut?

I don't feel like dropping ALL of my cigarette money on a haircut!|||A crew cut is usually cut clipper over comb so a beard trimmer will work as long as it will hold a charge long enough to complete a haircut. I honestly don't think you are contemplating a crew cut but rather a butch, in which case a beard trimmer is a poor choice as the haircut will probably be all splotchy looking.

Some barbers describe an ivy league as a crew cut just long enough to be parted and combed to the side, if so desired. An ivy league can also be worn with the hair brushed up off the forehead to form the short pomp front, or with the short bangs brushed down on the forehead like a forward brush cut.g
