I'm constantly changing my mind on what to do in the future as a career. I'm not sure what i want to do either.
So how did you find out what you wanted to do as a career/job?
And any advice would be good =)|||I never did find out ... and I have retired now. It is an impossible situation when you are expected to choose from tens of thousands of options about which you know little or nothing. We really only know about the jobs of people around us or that we take the trouble to find out about ... and even then we might reject the idea of a job that we might actually be quite good at.
I drifted until being forced by economic necessity into a job I would never have considered and, given the choice, would have actively avoided. I found most people worked without really understanding what they were doing or why. That was not satisfactory for me so I studied, understood, became qualified, moved on, moved up the food chain and retired in my early 50s. My early work experiences were horrible but were not wasted as they spurred me on to greater success later.
Life was probably much easier for people who made a career choice early on and went for it. They had early career success and earlier financial security and a greater sense of purpose. Of course they still had to work at it but they probably did fewer hopeless jobs, taking crap from incompetent bosses.
It is worth looking at the jobs that people actually do and trying to find out about them - not just what they do or how much they get paid but how rewarding it feels, how it uses their skills, whether it involves team working or personal responsibility, how much personal discretion is required, whether it is a job that involves a lot of contact with the public, whether it uses creative skills/analytical skills/verbal reasoning skills, whether it's a job that leads on to greater things .... and whatever else you can think of that matters to you.
Can I suggest something to bear in mind? - What matters to you today as a young person, new to the world of work and with limited experience of life, is probably not what will matter to you in the future - at least not as much. I limited my choices due to idealogical concerns that turned out to have been mistaken/misguided as I got older. Unlike me at your age, perhaps you should try to be open minded. Good luck.|||I found out what I wanted to do through a hobby. As I started taking music at school I fell in love with it. I am now a music teacher. I think you should try different things and be open to anything. Good Luck!
