I'm joining the air force I always wanted to be an architect, What job could i choose to land a civilian job?

I scored a 60 on the asvab my recruiter gave me a list of jobs including graphic arts. This was really the only job I could think of that might be like drafting, PLEASE HELP I HAVE TO CHOOSE SOON!! It would help to have answers from someone familiar with the air force or maybe pursuing the same job in the air force, THANKS!|||Hello Felix,

You didn't score 60 % on the ASVAB. You scored 60% on the AFQT (Armed Forces Qualification Test). That score was only good to show that you are smart enough to be in the Air Force. It has nothing to do with the job you get.

Your composite line scores in the MAGE 4 categories (Mechanical, Administrative, General, and Electronics) dictates what job you will get in the AF.

What are these 4 scores? Find them out and tell me them back so we can evaluate your aptitudes.

Now, If you want to be and architect in civilian life after you leave the AF and go to college you don't want graphic arts. Are you planning on being a webpage designer?

You want a job that has to do with civil engineering in construction skills so you know how buildings are built and maintained.

Civil Engineering jobs are in the Mechanical category all beginning with the number "3".

Why have you not shared what was on the "list" of jobs that the recruiter showed you?

I need to know the other options, too.

Look at all the Civil Engineering jobs that begin with a "3" in the job skill number. You have to enlist in OPEN Mechanical to be able to get one of these civil engineering jobs.

3E0X2- ELECTRICAL POWER PRODUCTION (M-51/E-33)

3E1X1- HEATING, VENTILATION, AIR CONDITIONING, AND REFRIGERATION (M-44/E-33)

3E2X1- PAVEMENTS AND CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT (M-38)

3E3X1- STRUCTURAL (M-44)

3E4X1- UTILITIES SYSTEMS (M-44)

I want you to read ALL the civil engineering job descriptions

If you are going to go to college after your service is finish you will take the appropriate blue print reading classes. Graphic Arts is not about "blue prints."

The problem with the General category is that it is too broad. You can get "any" of these jobs if you sign up for OPEN General category.

I want you to read ALL the civil engineering job descriptions.

I think it is important to be able to "do" some of the working jobs associated with the building trades so you can understand what it takes for people to work on the buildings that you might end up designing. And, you will be in a large civil engineering duty section where you will see others who do all the other jobs.

Best wishes,

Larry Smith

Senior Master Sergeant, USAF (Ret.)

First Sergeant|||He's quoting you things from the General category. Why? What are your MAGE scores? What is your score in Mechanical? That's were the civil engineering jobs are. Unless I know your 4 MAGE scores and why the recruiter is telling you these jobs when you won't get your job assigned until your 2nd

|||... your 2nd week of basic training and the list of jobs could very well be entirely different, I don't know what he is telling you. You need to tell me what he said as if I were there in the room with you. Are you trying to hold out for a guaranteed job? Or, are you going to sign OPEN category?
